ONCE UPON A NOW – fairy tales for #children – launch #Giveaway #Kindle pic.twitter.com/7jhRxZ4PlH

Well, today’s the day. I’ve had children, I was a child myself ( do writers ever grow up?) and I still like them. As a kid I loved to listen to stories and today I’m launching my own series of children’s books.

The Fairy tale retains its potency because it still speaks truth, hopes and dreams. I’ve approached some modern day situations exploring contemporary dilemmas and issues that confront young folk.

These chapter-book stories are aimed at young readers, in the 7-10 year age group.  The books are all illustrated in a modern anime-style by talented artist Miko Abellera from the Philippines. This young guy has a real Wow style. He gets right in there in a special way. He’s got a great career ahead of him.

Each book features unique links and scannable QR codes to take readers of both paperback and e-books to bonus material such as audio and video clips, downloadable photos and colouring pictures to enrich the reading experience.

All the books are also available in audio book format – delightful recordings by the poet Oscar Sparrow, who brings the stories to life in his own inimitable style. He also composed the words for the National Anthem of Zanubia which he sings in Alf The Workshop Dog. Well – singing may not be quite the word. I’d love to hear your opinions.

Ideal as stocking fillers or pocket money purchases!

How could a scruffy dog in a bus depot and the call of crows, link back to another world of power and love?

The ancient Kingdom of Zanubia and a stray dog looking for scraps in an inner-city repair garage, hold the secret.

A wicked king, a beautiful girl, a young prince and the struggle between right and wrong maintain the fable tradition.

There’s something strange in the woodshed…

A poor little girl in a faraway land dreams of riding a pink bicycle. When she meets a strange animal, her dreams come true. Her happiness turns to sadness when a tragedy occurs in the town and her father doesn’t come home.

Maybe her new magic friend can find him?

Charlie finds it tough when his parents divorce – but Auntie Kate helps him overcome his greatest fear.

When Charlie has to move from the country into the city, he needs new friends. With his small size and red hair, some people aren’t kind to him.

He wonders if he can face another day at school.

A trip to the circus gives him the strength to see himself and others in a new way.

To set the launch off with a bang I’m hosting a giveaway on Rafflecopter – something to really get your reading tastebuds fired up – first prize is a brand new 6″ KINDLE TOUCHSCREEN!

Nothing complicated required for entry and plenty of options to qualify for for extra goes.  If you don’t want the latest Kindle, you can opt for a CASH alternative too. Oh – and I’ll be giving away some books as prizes too, as you’d expect.   The draw is on the 17th December 2014 – so don’t hang around to enter.

FALLEN FOR #ROCK – get a BUZZ on the #Beach this #summer with Nicky Wells new #Romance plus #Giveaway #SWAG

Today I would like to introduce you to a guest author and her brand new racy romance, please give a big hand to the charismatic writer and radio star….

Uber-Rock-Chick Nicky Wells.

Born in Germany, Nicky moved to the United Kingdom in 1993 and currently lives in Lincoln with her husband and their two boys. Nicky loves listening to rock music, dancing, and eating lobsters. When she’s not writing, she’s a wife, mother, occasional knitter, and regular contributor at Siren 107.3 FM with her own monthly show. Rock on!

Nicky’s brand new ‘Rock Star Romance’ Fallen For Rock has just been published, my review is below and here’s the blurb:

‘A thrilling and delicious story of love and self-discovery woven around a broken romance that will make you turn page after page and cheer to the end.’

Love, life, loyalties. Nothing stays the same when Emily gets drawn into the world of rock.

Glossy and sophisticated professional high-flyer Emily has no time for nonsense such as the rock music her ex-boyfriend Nate adored so much. Yet when she unexpectedly comes into possession of VIP tickets—access all areas—for new rock band phenomenon, MonX, she can’t resist the temptation.

The fateful gig turns into more than one night, and Emily finds herself strangely drawn to this new and unfamiliar glittery world. However, only weeks later, MonX and her own universe fall apart with devastating consequences for all. When MonX lead singer Mike appeals for her help, she reluctantly embraces a new opportunity. But she soon discovers that while she may be a rock chick after all, a groupie she is not… Or is she?

Just exactly where do her loyalties lie? And what direction will her life take now that she’s left behind everything she treasured?

Warning! Fallen For Rock contains some explicit content and strong language that may not be suitable for readers under eighteen years of age.

My Review for Fallen For Rock

This is a sexy book. Putting sex in a story is easy. Making it sexy is talent. When a buttoned up ambitious girl who’s already made it in her own world tumbles into the wild world of rock, her buttons quickly unravel. Without giving away the story, Emily manages to fall for two men and get away with it. In the meantime she indulges in the ultimate fantasy of stepping out of her old stable privileged life. It’s not supposed to be for ever but everything is for ever when the beasts of lust and love break free. There are prices to be paid and choices to be made. She has the most fantastic sex of her life and loses all her previous status. Some would say this was a fair exchange but she doesn’t take it lying down and fights back. This is hard core rock star romance but also an uplifting story of a woman finding her true self through whatever life throws at her.  Another top read from Nicky Wells.

The Queen Of Hearts, She Made Some Tarts

Queen Tea. She’s a Yorkshire Lass who loves a proper brew. Bloxington Manor in the background.

Well – we launched it. The queen smashed the champagne on the bow and she slid away. So far Shannon’s Law floats on a sea of good reviews. (More please). Soon, I just know, someone will buy a copy. It has to happen.

Mug shot

Thanks so much to all the lovely folk who dropped by. I had tremendous fun making and photographing the scones, buns and sandwiches. I had even more fun chatting about the male hunks who could have displayed on the cover of Shannon’s Law. One day all these guys are gonna rise up and tell us they’re not merely sex objects. My man tells me he’s happy to be seen as a sex subject provided I’m prepared to cooperate on the other side of a transitive verb. I think that means he still desires me. I’ve got a fab editor (Anneli Purchase) who does the hardcore grammar stuff.

Sex Subject.

I asked for your cakes and boy – take a look at these. This is a library! Thanks to Sharon Goodwin of Fiction Addiction Book Tours for sending me her treat. My lovely friend Petra Rovere let me into her poppy seed sensation secrets. What troubles me is that Petra is in Slovenia and knows more English than me.

Try making an e book to taste better.

Thanks also to Claude Nougat (novelist, linguist, poet, artist, economist, philosopher) for popping in with her ‘vite et bon’ sponge. How does she get time to cook?

With Poppies from Petra.
Claude’s Vite et Bon gateau.

The whole theme of course was good old fashioned English tea. In the novel, Shannon takes tea with the Earl Spencer as she begins to enter his private world of aristocracy and tradition. He is a troubled and reserved man. Once upon a time he sang Elvis songs and played saxophone. A new sun has come to thaw his blue blood. And yes – it’s a warm red after all.

Whatever the fate of my book I’ve had a lovely time with the launch. I’ve made contact with folk – critics, writers, editors and readers who have helped me all the way. I’ve also had contact with the guys who produce Yorkshire Gold tea. This is not a commercial placement. I adore their tea. It is my day time fuel. OK – after five o’ clock maybe I can slip in the odd vin rouge, or two…… Just like Shannon in my book.

I went to Bloxington Manor to do some publicity shots. Above is a little link to my tea by the lake.

And that’s a wrap. Shannon’s Law has been a year of my life. I write by hand and it’s a four times edit before it goes to my editor. OK – I know, it needs another edit! Too late, there’s another passion patrol keel on the slipway.

Emma Thinx: Life is a perfect rising cake –  that sticks.

Shannon’s Law Book Launch Party

It’s launch day. Shannon’s Law is now an item of public discourse. It’s the ball in a touchdown or the cake in a boulanger’s window. The story is of a genteel English lord and a wild child street cop from the de-railed side of the urban tracks. Things start to get cosy when he invites her for tea. He serves sophisticated Earl Grey. She needs a full on proper brew from Yorkshire Gold. She loves his class. He adores her rich satisfying flavour. You kinda get that tingle that it’ll be tea for two in bed some time soon. She’s a strong willed woman. Guess what strength he gives her.

How else to launch such a steamy tale but with a tea party. There’s gonna be prizes. There’s gonna be music and for sure there’s gonna be tea and cakes.

On the subject of cakes, I need your recipes. If we get enough, my own publisher – Gallo-Romano Media, will bring out a digital cookbook. All contributors will be credited. The proceeds will all go to the charity the Trussell Trust which organises food banks for needy folk. It is a non denominational Christian organisation which I respect although I have no personal religious faith. So dig out those donuts, roll out those roulades and bung me your buns.

The launch party begins on Facebook at 4pm London time (8am PST, 10am CST,11am EST.) It’s on for four hours and coffee is available throughout too.

If you can’t make the party there’s prizes to be had here. The draw is on the 7th March so everyone can have a go.

Ring For A Belle – Historic Jewellery on Tour with @RobertsoKing

Gems for an Empress

Today’s Pinterest reveal is a most wonderful piece of jewellery. You can see my full post on Celtic Connections. The site is owned by Melanie Robertson-King. She’s a silver medalist sword dancer from the 1000 Island highland games. That’s a big Wow from me. There’s just gotta be a story to write around that. She also writes fiction where the sword of authenticity enhances the drama. Check out her novel A Shadow in the Past

Does my rear look big in this? Let’s #review it with @jennymarston_xo

The first review for Shannon’s Law goes to…. Jenny Marston, a UK uber-blogger and book reviewer.

I do believe she liked the book…

http://jennyinneverland.wordpress.com/2014/02/03/shannons-law-emma-calin-author-interview/

I like her review A LOT!

Luckily the rear end of my book was bare and still in production so I was able to include an excerpt before the launch-day print run and publication.

She was closely followed by Anneli Purchase from Canada and Petra Rovere from Slovenia.  They enjoyed it too and are also quoted.  Watch this space for their reviews later in my Pinterest Reveal Blog Tour

I can’t thank my early reviewers too much. All feedback is welcome and hard to get. I feel very privileged to have folks out there who have given me their attention above the clamour of this world.

Emma Thinx. A true friend knows your flaws and defends them.

Shannon’s Law – On The Trailer Trail

https://www.youtube.com/v/Kdxg6zeJlDw?version=3&f=user_uploads&c=google-webdrive-0&app=youtube_gdata

I know I shouldn’t be excited. The launch of Shannon’s Law looms near. It’s all ramping up. The very merry month of February beckons. I’ve turned down deals from big players out there. I have deflected the harpoons of literary whaling fleets. OK – solid day-after-day writing and marketing novels has expanded the blubber a little. I’ve invented marketing strategies previously unknown to man. I’ve already unveiled Cop’s Kitchen, the recipes for hot plated action love that accompany Shannon’s Law. Today I reveal the pre-release trailer of the main event. This trail follows the course of my Pinterest board which I created during the formation of the book.

Pinterest is a major online resource if you are planning anything from a wedding to the launch of a moon rocket. It’s a giant online scrap book. It lets you save the image and the information behind it including the URL link. You could use it to plan a book. You collect all your ideas and images and then follow the trail.

As Shannon’s Law has unfolded, I have created a private Pinterest board of more or less everything in the book. If I spin it then I pin it. Now readers can see the whole stripped-off  deal. During the month of February every day will uncover an aspect of the plot on the Shannon’s Law Pinterest Board. Different elements of the story will be spread around bloggers of the world. I have already put up some teaser silhouette-clues. As each blogger reveals the background to each shadow, I will pin their revelations to the Shannon’s Law Board. If you wanna join in follow the board here

All the wonderful bloggers are listed below if you wanna take a look into their individual worlds.

Take a look under the covers – the revealing truth of @EmmaCalin’s steamy #Romance #Novel SHANNON’S LAW

COVER REVEAL

SHANNON’S LAW  by Emma Calin

Today’s the day – the worldwide ‘Cover Reveal’ for my forthcoming contemporary romance SHANNON’S LAW. It’s is the second in my ‘Passion Patrol Series’ – steamy action-romances that feature sassy female cops who solve crimes, catch crooks and always get their man.

Blurb

Wild child inner city cop Shannon Aguerri walks a dangerous line between her methods and justice. When the bosses lose their nerve, after yet another maverick mission, she is transferred to green pastures to play out the role of a routine village cop. When she encounters signs of people and drug trafficking she homes in on serious millionaire criminals. As a loner she has attracted men but nothing has stuck. When she meets Spencer, the hunky and widowed Earl of Bloxington, there is an immediate rapport between them. Their social differences mean nothing to their passion and need. Already in the mix is an upper class female rival – who has long plotted her way into the Earl’s bed. The jealousy is an evil shade of green and the anger is a violent scarlet. Often inhibited by a sense of duty and honour, Spencer is slow to reveal his feelings. When Shannon confronts him with the need to choose between her word and that of her rival, he does not immediately support her. All the same, when they are forced together to carry out a desperate rescue mission, their love is stronger than everything ranged against them.
(Pre-order paperback only at this stage)
I will be revealing snippets from the story, photos of places and people that inspired the venues and characters on Pinterest during my pre-launch book tour. There are already some scrap-book cuttings posted, take a look and follow my board to get updates:
There is also news about the book on Facebook:
(‘Likes’ are always appreciated…..)
I’m having two launch parties “Afternoon Tea At Bloxington Manor”. The first is online on the 28th February on Facebook and the second is LIVE at the English stately home that inspired the home of my hero on Sunday 2nd March. A local favourite venue for me, Avington Park in Hampshire is steeped in history and tradition. (Think genuine Palladian style rather than Downton Abbey neo-Jacobean). The private owners have kindly agreed to open up for us with a tour of the house and then tea and cake – oh and launch the book of course!
